भगवद् गीता – जीवन के लिए एक कालातीत मार्गदर्शिका
If there is any text of Indian culture and philosophy tradition that is the most profound, simple and universally accepted, then it is Shrimad Bhagavad Gita . Considering it only a religious text would limit its importance, because it is the art of living, a guide to duty and a proclamation of the eternity of the soul. Gita is rightly called “a timeless guide to life” , because the principles mentioned in it are useful for every era, every situation and every human being.
Origin and historical background of Gita
Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is a part of the Bhishma Parva of the Mahabharata. It has a total of 700 verses and 18 chapters . Its context is the war of the Mahabharata.
When the Pandavas and the Kauravas stood face to face on the battlefield, Arjuna, seeing his own loved ones, teachers and relatives on the battlefield, was overcome with emotion and laid down his weapons. He became confused about his Dharma and duty.
At this time Lord Krishna preached religion, soul, karma, yoga and devotion to Arjun. This same preaching is present before us today in the form of Bhagavad Gita .
